Fire engines descended on an Oxfordshire fish and chip takeaway after a blaze broke out in the kitchen.

The incident occurred at around 10.35pm on Wednesday, March 27, when a fire occurred in the deep fat fryer located on the ground floor of The Finest Catch in Bicester.

Four fire engines from Bicester, Kidlington and Oxford raced to the Whitelands Way takeaway and remained until 1.23am on Thursday morning.

Thames Valley Police were also at the scene with two officers in cars during the emergency response.

Later on in the day, The Finest Catch took to Facebook to tell customers what had occurred and thank others for their well wishes.

“As you all may be aware we suffered a small fire last night at the finest catch,” read the post.

“We are working really hard to try and get back open for tonight all be it a little later than normal.

“We thank you all for the kind messages we’ve received.

“We will keep you all posted throughout the day with our progress.”

The fish takeaway updated its customers via Facebook later on Thursday following a visit from the fire safety officer.

“The fire safety officer has been and he is happy for us to reopen,” read the latest post.

“We will be open at 6.30pm.”
