A SUSPENDED prison sentence has been handed to a young man caught threatening his friend with a knife over a dispute about a woman.

Tyirie Allen was sentenced at Oxford Crown Court on Thursday (May 9) for one count of threatening a person with a bladed article.

The 25-year-old was caught threatening Waqas Khan in Oxford over an argument about a woman.

It was heard that Allen, of Furlong Close, was shouting aggressively towards Mr Khan, who was in turn shouting at the defendant.

Allen could be heard saying: “Come on then, I’ll f*** you up.”

Both men were arrested by Mr Khan’s case was later dropped because though he appeared to approach Allen with a bladed article it was later revealed that he did not have a knife.

Defending Allen, barrister Gordana Austin said both men have since apologised to each other and have remained friends after the incident. 

“He understands this a serious matter and it passes the custodial threshold,” she said.

Sentencing him to 12 months imprisonment, suspended for 18 months, Recorder James Hay said: “This was a totally needless incident and I know you know that.”

Allen was also ordered to complete 30 sessions of a specified programme and 25 rehabilitation activity days.

He will also be made subject to three months of trail monitoring.
