FANS of German techno band Kraftwerk queued outside Oxford's New Theatre from 7am this morning to snap up tickets which went on sale at midday.

The art rock pioneers will play at the city's New Theatre on June 6 2017.

At the very front of the queue today was Summertown's Mark Taylor, who got up at 6am to make sure he got prime position.

He said: "For a band of this stature to be playing in such a small venue as the New Theatre is astonishing."

The new date comes after their 12-date UK tour which includes three nights at the Royal Albert Hall, sold out.

Oxford Mail:

The show will feature 3D visuals, and projections, with the band – Ralf Hütter, Henning Schmitz, Fritz Hilpert and Falk Grieffenhagen – sporting their now-trademark neon suits.

Kraftwerk were founded in 1970 by Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider. The pair produced and recorded their music at Düsseldorf's Kling Klang Studio. Always ahead of their time, they laid the template for modern electronic music. Artists to have been influenced by the band are as diverse as David Bowie, Jay-Z, Coldplay, OMD, Depeche Mode, Kanye West and New Order.

Their music pioneered such techniques as looping, sampling, and the use of synthetic voices – forging a genre now known as synth-pop.

A spokesman for the band said: "Bringing together music and performance art, Kraftwerk 3-D concerts are a true 'gesamtkunstwerk' – a total work of art.”
