THE ‘Iron Lady’ Baroness Margaret Thatcher is among the new names to be featured in the latest edition of the influential Oxford Dictionary of National Biography.

The book, published by Oxford University Press, is the national record of men and women who have made an impact on British life in the UK and overseas anytime from the Roman occupation up to the 21st century.

Published today the new edition includes the Oxford alumni Iron Lady alongside Nobel Laureates, broadcasting legends and a selection of heroes and villains from recent history.

Oxford Dictionary of National Biography development editor Laura Dawkins welcomed the release of the newest edition.

She said: “It seeks to reflect the full range of national life, and includes noteworthy people of all kinds, whose lives, careers, and achievements are assessed by specialist contributors."

Other Oxfordshire names that made the list include Australian born Nobel Prize winner for chemistry Sir John Cornforth who studied at Oxford University.

Oxford professor and Nobel Prize winner for literature Seamus Heaney has also been recognised in the updated list.

Other names on the new list are the mastermind of the Great Train Robbery heist Bruce Reynolds and London gangster who played a role in the robbery Ronnie Biggs.
