Pothole sponsor plans lead to Oxford road repair

RESIDENTS of a badly potholed road last night thanked Oxford City Council for fixing their street after reading of their plight in the Oxford Mail.

Last week we reported on the dire state of the surface of Raymund Road, Old Marston.

The road, along with Arlington Drive and Haynes Road, had become so badly riddled with potholes that one resident suggested the community took matters into their hands and paid for the upkeep themselves.

Anthony Baker, above, of Raymund Road, suggested approaching businesses with his sponsor-a-pothole scheme, in which companies could pay to fill in holes in return for an advertising board nearby.

The city council welcomed the idea, but yesterday workmen arrived in Raymund Road and started work on filling in the holes.

Mr Baker said he was pleased the council appeared to have read the story and taken action.

He added: “We would like to thank the Oxford Mail for bringing it to their attention."

City councillor Colin Cook, executive board member for city development said: “The planned maintenance of this road has been brought forward because of the concerns of residents.”
