Shops offered training to boost sales

INDEPENDENT retailers in Oxford are being helped to drive sales thanks to a new round of subsidised training and support schemes.
Oxford City Council funded a series of National Skills Academy for Retail programmes last summer, with eight retail businesses taking part.
Now, thanks to a £10,000 cash injection from the Government-backed Town Team Partners fund, a new round is to be launched.
The Guide to Successful Retailing courses have been designed to provide independent retailers with the skills to run a profitable business at a discounted rate.
They include retail business planning and finance, driving sales through marketing and buying and visual merchandising.
City centre manager Gordon Reid said: “These programmes are a fantastic opportunity for retailers across Oxford to get expert training at heavily subsidised rates.”
