WOMEN are being invited to nominate themselves or others for a national business award.

Entries opened this week for the Veuve Clicquot Business Awards, which include two categories – women in business and new generation.

The first is for those at the top of their profession, while new generation is for female entrepreneurs aged 25-35.

Fashion designer Anya Hindmarsh and Summertown-based Harriet Green, chief executive of travel firm Thomas Cook, are past winners of the women in business award.

Last year’s new generation award was won by 27-year-old Jenny Dawson, who started chutney-making business Rubies in the Rubble.

The awards are in memory of 19th-Century businesswoman Barbe-Nicole Clicquot, who took over the running of a banking, wool and wine firm and transformed it into the successful Veuve Cliquot champagne label.

Judges include Pizza Express entrepreneur Luke Johnson and JoJo Maman Bebe boss Laura Tenison.

Christina Jesaitis, senior brand manager at Veuve Clicquot, said: “Madame Clicquot proved to be an entrepreneurial trailblazer in the 1800s.

“We want this year’s awards to celebrate women in business, create new connections and encourage others that success is achievable.”

The closing date for nominations is January 9.
