MORE THAN 180 jobs will be created when Amazon opens a new delivery station at Banbury this month.

The online giant will employ more than 30 people directly, including security staff.

But it will also use 15 independent delivery companies who are hiring more than 150 drivers to deliver parcels to the Banbury area seven days a week under the Amazon Logistics operation.

Amazon Logistics UK director Jamie Stephenson said: “Amazon Logistics adds capacity and flexibility to Amazon’s delivery network, enabling us to meet the delivery needs of customers.

“Amazon Logistics is also helping independent local delivery companies to grow their businesses by providing state of the art technology to deliver Amazon orders.”

More jobs will also be created in the north of the county with the opening of a Premier Inn hotel in Chipping Norton.

On the site of the old Castle View care home site and former ambulance station site on Spring Street, the hotel is expected to offer up to 30 vacancies.

Parent company Whitbread is already advertising for an assistant operations manager for Chipping Norton.

The firm already has six hotels in Oxfordshire – at Abingdon, Didcot, Witney, Bicester, Oxford Business Park and Banbury.

There are plans to open another 200 hotels in the UK during the next five years.
