BOOK lovers' magazine The Good Book Guide is to close its Chalgrove office. It went into receivership at the end of July, but has been bought by Blackpool entrepreneur Graham Holmes.
Order processing for the monthly magazine’s 4,500 customers will now take place at Blackpool and the editor Fiona Lafferty will work from Winchester, her home town.
Receiver Chris Cox, of Begbies Traynor in York, said: “Anyone owed money should have been notified of the situation.” He added: “It’s too early to say exactly what the financial position is, but I think it unlikely that they will be paid anything.”
Ms Lafferty said: “The Chalgrove office opened in 2006 with three staff, then went down to two, and then it was just me. Now our only association with Oxfordshire will be that some of our reviewers come from there.”
Most reviewers were pleased the Guide had been saved from closure, she said.
Mr Holmes said: “We are working hard to get things back on an even keel as quickly as possible.”
Anybody owed money should contact the receiver in York.
Anyone who has ordered books but not received them should contact orders@thegoodbookguide. com.
