Mini engine marks milestone
The three millionth engine to be produced at BMW’s Hams Hall plant near Birmingham will be used in a Mini destined for the company’s latest global market.
The 1.6 litre four cylinder petrol engine will be delivered to the Cowley works before being installed in the car and sent to India, the 100th export destination for Mini.
More than 80 per cent of Minis produced in the UK are exported with 1.6 million being shipped abroad since the car was launched in 2001.
Hams Hall plant director Nick Spencer said: ““This is a fantastic milestone. Our 800-strong workforce is proud to be playing an important role within BMW Group’s global production network, building engines in the UK for cars sold in many countries around world and contributing to the success of the iconic Mini brand.”
