  • "Surprised they're allowed to add anything on such a flood-risk area. Although I am a confirmed Tesco hater, if it's really as small as they say it is, I can't see it'll make a huge difference. However, Tesco and truthfulness don't often go hand in hand................

Tesco bids to extend superstore

TESCO wants to extend its Abingdon superstore despite telling the Oxford Mail in April that it had no plans to do so.

A planning application for a new 470 sq metre sales floor area has been submitted to Vale of White Horse District Council.

In April Tesco spokesman Simon Petar said the firm had no plans to expand the Marcham Road superstore.

The store, which opened in 1982, has a total area of 9,692 sq metres and when the store’s old garden centre is demolished the extension will increase the shop’s size by 167m2.

Tesco spokesman Simon Petar said the plans surfaced after he spoke to the Mail. He said: “We are always looking to improve our stores for customers. Our proposal is for a small extension.”
