Mini scoops green award

A diesel version of the Cowley-built Mini has won a top motoring award for the second year running.

The Cooper D was voted the most ‘Fun Green Car’ by What Car? magazine at the publication’s annual Green Awards.

The car is built with a 1.6 litre diesel engine which emits just 99g/km of carbon dioxide emissions while achieving 74.3 miles per gallon.

Judges praised the car for its environmental credentials which have been built in without compromising the car’s ‘go-kart’ handling.

Chas Hallett, What Car? editor in chief, said: “The Cooper D proves it is absolutely possible to minimise transport impact on the environment and still have a lot of fun behind the wheel.”
