GERMAN company Kärcher is moving to a new Banbury site double the size of its existing base and creating new jobs.

The firm, known for its high-pressure washers and vacuum cleaners, is swapping its offices in Beaumont Road for a new 84,500 sq ft complex at Banbury Point before the end of the year.

The six-and-a-half acre site will include a three-storey building with offices, an academy, retail centre, warehouse and workshop.

Oxford-based land consultants Minns Network Developments and property agents AC Lloyd expect construction to start this spring.

Since Karcher UK moved to Banbury in 1978, it has grown its staff from eight to 300 and more are expected to be taken on once the new site is up and running.

The development will include a sales and service centre for domestic and commercial customers plus a Kärcher Academy offering product training.

Kärcher UK managing director Simon Keeping said: “These are exciting times and this opportunity, afforded by the company’s expansion, is testament to the quality inherent in Kärcher – not only of our products but of our team and its ethos too.

“In order to maintain continuity amid our growth and retain key Kärcher knowhow, remaining near to our Banbury roots was crucial.”

AC Lloyd director Des Wynne added: “This is a highly prominent site close to the M40 and we are delighted to have attracted a global operator such as Kärcher UK as major occupier.

“The company is already a significant employer in the town so it is great that it has chosen to remain in Banbury in what will be a bespoke building and bring new employment into the area.”
