ONE of Oxford’s oldest city centre pubs, which closed more than a year ago, is to reopen next month after a £225,000 refurbishment.
The St Aldate’s Tavern has been leased from its owner Merton College by the City Pub Company, which started trading in March and already runs six pubs in the South of England.
Chief executive Clive Watson said: “We want the pub to appeal to everyone, not just tourists or students.
“We shall invest about £125,000 on refitting and redecorating the pub.”
John Gloag, estates bursar at the college, which also owns the Turf Tavern, in Holywell Street, said: “We have spent about £100,000 on bringing the place up to a high structural standard.”

I as an individual know Oxford inside out as a local, I have experience... yet no response... personally, reckon it will be closed in a year or so without the right staff.

How do you know who they have empoyed yet and if their CV's were just better than yours? I've run pubs in the past and if that is your attitude when you get knocked back then they ahve done well not to have you on their team.
Good luck to them always good to see small companies having a go, no matter who they employ.

Bit of a shame as they will not employ local people will no experience but willing to learn the trade... instead they employ students that will leave come end of term!!
Did you list your attributes? interests? Did you convey in a personal way why you would be the right person for the job? Did you make it clear in your application that you have the right social skills to make the customers feel welcome and appreciated?
You have also complained about the fact that you did not receive a reply to your job application. Honestly, would you have the time to personally reply to perhaps several hundred job applicants. Have you contacted them to enquire why you were'nt selected?
Obviously, they feel that somebody else is better suited than you for the job. Perhaps you could contact them and enquire what specific abilities they were looking for, that you don't have. This would help you in your next job application.
A word of advice, a pleasant and positive attitude will go a long way in the future. Good luck in finding a job that makes both yourself and your future employer happy.
