It has taken her a few years but, at the age of 30, Cassie Cooper has finally found her perfect career.A former pupil of the Dragon School, Oxford, she graduated from Birmingham University, spent three years as a shop manager and four years as a PA in London before deciding to train as a solicitor.

She said: “I had done all my studying and I was six months into my training contract, working at a law firm, when I realised that I did not want to go through with it.” She took a part-time job with a conference-organising company and set up in business as a wedding event organiser — but shortly afterwards, her relationship broke up and she decided to move back to Oxford, where she grew up.

She said: “I have only just started as an event planner in Oxfordshire, but I already have two or three things in the pipeline and I have met several suppliers I can do business with. I can already see that it is much better to be a big fish in a small pond. There is a lot of competition still, but it is lovely to be back in Oxford."

She believes events should not be organised like military operations.

“There is too much focus on perfection and rigid timetables, instead of on the most important things — did you enjoy yourself, did your guests enjoy themselves and will everyone remember it as a day when everyone was relaxed and happy?"

She has named her company Three Graces Events — a reference to the Greek goddesses created to fill the world with pleasant moments and goodwill. And she loves weddings.

"I'm not married myself and in some ways that is better because I find all of it really exciting. I love reading all the magazines and it is all fresh to me," she said.

Her ideal was organising a “village fete-style event where everyone ate sausage and mash and sat on picnic rugs. Luxury and glamour is fine, but it is nice to have something personal that you always remember.”

She added: “Everyone says I should have done this years ago, because I have always been the one who organises big events or weekends away, or even nights out. But I am really happy that I have done so many different things because it has given me valuable experience. It makes me much more able to run a business.” Contact: 07964 209180 www.threegracesevents.co.uk
