The way we watch television is changing dramatically. A generation ago there were just three channels watched on a wooden-cased set controlled manually with dials.

Now there are hundreds of channels, programmes can be recorded, downloaded and watched in 3D while sets are high definition with signals sent by satellite, cable and via the Internet as well as through conventional aerials.

While sets have grown bigger and better over the years, now technology seems to be working in reverse with the race to be able to stream or download programming onto mobile devices well and truly on.

One of those leading the way is Charlie Price, who has not only devised an app which allows TV shows to fit onto a telephone tablet, but is actually making the programming himself.

Mr Price, 23, from Shennington, near Banbury, is looking to offer a range of shows covering the areas of drama, children’s and lifestyle that will be available to be bought through the Mini Screen Pictures app.

He had the idea after being employed as a script reader for programmes on BBC Worldwide and other major production companies and his father, David, encouraged him to have a go at starting his own business.

Mr Price said: “I got in touch with the Princes Trust and went on a week-long course where I met a lot of people my age looking to set up their own companies. I had been apprehensive but after going on the course, I was determined it was the right thing to do.”

Now Mr Price is working on five different scripts after receiving more than 350 submissions via the BBC Writers Room platform for new TV writers.

He has received a £10,000 loan from Transmit Start Ups which delivers a Government-backed scheme designed to invest in new businesses.

The cash has allowed him to develop pilot programming which he can then showcase to potential investors, including a comedy/drama called Banana Skirt.

Mr Price is also being helped by Christian Harris who runs Gorillabox, a company specialising in distributing mobile media content.

“All the content we are making is aimed at people on the go. If people want to stream it they can do or material can also be downloaded.

“I am looking for the ‘watercooler effect’ where people are talking about a show and it can be viewed there and then.”

As well as drama and lifestyle programming, Mr Price sees potential in making corporate videos especially designed for smaller devices.

“We have a platform that is extremely versatile and is completely interactive. It is cutting edge and has great potential.” Contact: 07747 636987 Web: www.miniscreenpictures.co.uk
