Didcot Girls' considering switch to academy

PARENTS of pupils at Didcot Girls’ School are being consulted on whether the school should become an academy.
The girls’ school is following in the footsteps of the town’s boys’ school St Birinus, which decided to consult parents on becoming an academy earlier this year.
The consultation at the school in Manor Crescent started on Friday and finishes on May 21. Parents are being consulted on converting to a Multi-Academy Trust, to allow the possibility of joining in an academy structure with St Birinus or primary schools in the Didcot area at a future date.
Headteacher Rachael Warwick said multi-academy trust status would be necessary to create a third state school for the town’s Great Western Park, a proposal outlined last year by Didcot Girls’ School, St Birinus School, and Abingdon and Witney College.
If governors at the girls’ school decide to go ahead with the change, the school would apply to the Department for Education to become an academy from August 1.
A letter to parents at the girls’ school said that very little would change in the day-to-day running of the school.
