CHILDREN at Sunningwell Primary School celebrated as they were given their special Jubilee mugs yesterday.
They were given the commemorative tokens by Abingdon mayor Monica Lovatt and leader of Abingdon Town Council Sandy Lovatt.
Headteacher Anita Leech said: “The children were amazed, they kept asking ‘are we all going to be getting one of these?’ “And then they wouldn’t put them down all day. They were excited about the whole thing and I’m sure they are something they will remember for the rest of their lives.
“Plus we had no breakages that we know about.”
Mr Lovatt said: “It was a lovely occasion.
“The children were delightful and they were all so excited about it.
“My wife and I were both six when the Coronation took place and we remember being taken to events like this.
“So it is lovely to be doing the same. It will leave quite an impression on the children.”
