Sir – In the discussions on your pages of hardware store closures, I thank my lucky stars that I am lucky enough to live close to Silvester’s. This is a family-run traditional hardware shop in the heart of East Oxford (Magdalen Road) that is second to none.

A friendly face always greets you and my experience has been that no item is too small or too obscure for them to stock. I hope it will continue to trade for many years to come.
