Costly business

Sir – So councillor Keith Mitchell concedes that roads are actually ‘for the public in general — to walk, cycle and drive . . .’ and that ‘managing this road space is a difficult and costly business’ (Letters, March 22) in defence of charging for parking in the city.

I am pleased to see that he has learned something from his Green Party colleagues on the county council, just before he is due to retire.

They have expressed this position for years and have generally been scorned and ridiculed by him and his party for doing so.
