No link to road safety

Sir – On Thursday, April 19, I was travelling through the Hendreds on the A417 road between Wantage and Didcot. At a constant throttle setting of 40mph, the approved limit, I entered the dip between the two villages. Lo and behold at the bottom of the dip, opposite the speed camera was a mobile speed trap, well I never!

The vehicle will increase speed due to inertia and the effect of travelling down an incline, money for old rope for the ‘Old Bill’ then.

I view this as ‘entrapment’ and the police acting as tax collectors for the government, it’s nothing to do with road safety or catching speeders at all.

The Chief Constable of Thames Valley should hang her head in shame and return her bonus by way of contrition. By doing so, she would be assisting public finances.
