Keep the cyclists off

Sir – I was appalled by Dagmara Platuska’s letter arguing a case for cyclists to cycle on the footpaths. The footpath is for pedestrians.
I am an old man but I walk around Oxford a great deal and every time I go out, I always encounter people cycling on the pavements and several times I have been nearly knocked over.
I wish the police would be more strict about this. If drivers are driving carelessly then they need be reprimanded as well, but please keep cyclists off the pavements.
