Look to Europe
8:00am Thursday 2nd August 2012 in Letters
Sir – When it comes to its approach to transport in the Sites and Housing Development Plan, Mr Crofton-Briggs, the council’s head of city development, wants support for the council proposal for a 40mph speed limit on the ring road because of the European examples where this has been successfully achieved (Urban boulevard plan in tatters, Report, July 26).
However, when it comes to the apparently less important issue of housing, the city council do not appear to have any knowledge or given any weight in the plan to the fact that in many European countries co-housing is a normal and successful part of housing provision.
The claim that Oxford is a world-class city cannot be sustained until it acknowledges the benefits of co-housing that have been realised in countries in Europe and around the world.
