Long wait for home

Sir – Daniel Scharf (Letters, August 2) writes extolling co-housing as a remedy for the acute housing shortages in the city of Oxford (6,000 families needing a home, apparently). I looked at the co-housing website and it seemed to me that this method of obtaining family housing is for those who go for sandals and ginger socks and coming on top of all the other constraints and barriers, ie finance, land acquisition, planning permission, conservationists, neighbours, Green Belt , highways, etc, would extend the process to the point that most of the participants would be dead before a single house was built. Please tell me where I’m wrong.
