Utilities under strain

Sir – As a long-time resident of Oxford, I was interested to read Chris Koenig’s essay (Business, August 9) in regard to the increase in Oxford’s population over the last ten years.

This, combined with all the reported developments proposed in and around the city leads me to ask one vital question.

Why is it that we hear no proposals to increase the capacity of the utilities servicing these developments, especially drainage and sewage treatment, which are already under strain?

Given the number of developments imminent, surely these matters should be addressed before planning approval is given?
