South Africa's finest, £106

The top South African wineries are now producing world-class wines with wonderful finesse and complexity and the range of wines that are being made here is astounding, including everything from chenin blanc to top class pinot noir and Bordeaux style blends. These are wines worth drinking.

The South Africa's finest case costs £106 and includes three bottles each of the following four wines.

Klein Constantia Sauvignon Blanc 2008: Half way between the Kiwi and the French styles, this grassy sauvignon blanc has all the aromatic zip of the former with all the minerally fruit of the latter. Very crisp and refreshing.

Secateurs Chenin Blanc 2009: ‘A fabulous bargain. Very fresh, floral and honeyed with masses of intensity and flavour (presumably because of the age of the vines) but with a satisfyingly dry finish. Over delivers in the most delightful way — 17/20.’ Jancis Robinson MW

Guardian Peak Merlot 2007: Very well crafted and superbly drinkable merlot with deep rich creamy fruit, excellent structure and a long aromatic finish.

Rustenberg John X Merriman 2006: This Bordeaux-style blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot, petit verdot, cabernet franc and malbec has all the hallmarks of Bordeaux with the additional ripeness of South Africa — excellent wine.
