From tomorrow till June 26 the Oxfringe Festival will unleash a veritable tsunami of great and varied entertainment at venues all over the city. These are my pick of them.

On the music scene there is all kinds of sound, from the quirky Opera in Punts at Folly Bridge throughout the festival, to the acclaimed Movin’ Melvin Brown (right). The last of the great song ’n’ dance men, he charts the history of black music, featuring the songs of Ray Charles, Chuck Berry and others at the Copa Upstairs from June 15-18. There is a free music event at the Ashmolean on Saturday featuring Voice, a female acapella trio who create incredible harmonies.

For comedy lovers Russell Kane’s show at the Regal tomorrow will be a real starfest, but if your taste is for something more edgy, award-winning troupe Idiots of Ants at the North Wall on June 15 will really hit the spot. There is a rich variety of theatre to be enjoyed, too, including the funny and sharp Quiz Night at the Britannia, which is in fact on at the Copa Upstairs! — from June 15-17. Another must-see is Remember Tomorrow, charting the life-changing experiences of a Greenham Common campaigner (Simpkins Lee Theatre, June 15).
