Trevor Barton uses this cameo exhibition — four paintings in total — to provide an innovative way of experiencing art and the opportunity to share what you think with others, as each piece is also part of an online interactive exhibition.

Those with apps that allow their mobiles to connect with the QR code attached to each picture can take advantage of the free local Wi-Fi and engage immediately in online discussions. Others can take part by accessing Barton’s web page from a laptop or a home computer.

Barton raises interesting questions about personal perceptions of works of art and how these are influenced by the mind state of the viewer. Are you approaching the work with a clear mind without preconceptions or judgments? Or are your own preoccupations helping to shape what you see?

In Compassion Just Happens (The Way You Grow Your Hair), he paints a youngish male head seen from above. Is the figure acquiescent and bowing or merely seen from a particular perspective?

Stepping out of The Mental Movie #1, carries a clear reference to the movies in the film edge depicted on the right of the piece. But the picture remains open to interpretation. Is it a sunset at altitude? Is it a still from a real film? Or a personal construct? The composition makes a good picture, with the bright light as the focal point, cradled by blues above grading into darkness and the reds of the foreground. And in Artfinger, Barton has worked in free hand to create what appears to be a cold night with a ring around the moon, all suspended over a rock face.

To interact with each piece either visit The Art Cafe, Bonn Square between now and April 26, or go online to www.trevorbarton.co.uk and see the work there and share your observations.
