This month’s case contains some of the classic grape varieties that really shine when handled well by good winemakers using modern equipment.

These rich ripe wines go very well with a wide variety of food and can also be enjoyed equally well on their own because of their smooth velvety texture.

The Rich Ripe Reds mixed case, which includes three bottles of each of the following four wines, is priced at £70 (normal price £82.44).

La Roma Sangiovese 2011, Italy

With notes of red cherry and currant, this wine is soft and succulent with good smooth textured rich fruit – great with rich pasta dishes or casseroles.

Four Crossings Cabernet/Petit Verdot 2011, Australia

Blackcurrants and touches of cedar and berry fruit from the Cabernet combined with ripe dark fruit from the Petit Verdot. A classic Bordeaux style with added Aussie richness.

Borsao Garnacha 2011, Spain

Always a popular wine because of its deep rich spicy fruit, the Garnacha grape variety gives this wine a very soft but ultra fruity style that never fails to satisfy. Good with any red meat dish.

Rio Alto Syrah 2012, Chile

Rounded with very good fruit definition and that drink me factor, this wine has deep raspberry fruit, spice and delightful floral aspects that linger on the palate. Great with grilled meat in particular.
