Steven Burgess is the pen-name of a Watlington solicitor who wants to remain anonymous.
His first novel The Devil’s Manor (ebook, £2.99), was written following his 15-year career as a criminal defence solicitor.
He hopes the story, featuring the lawyer of a man accused of a supposed satanic murder in a Nottinghamshire mining community, will raise awareness of the role of defence solicitors, which he believes is threatened by legal aid cuts. Indeed, he says the cuts will make the job of defence solicitor impossible.
