Helping people find the right employment

10:27am Sunday 25th July 2010

Right Employment provides an individualised service to anyone with a learning disability over the age of 16 to help and support them through the whole process of finding employment. It supports people to find full- or part-time work. This is especially important as many people only wish to work for a few hours a week, particularly if they have not worked before, in order to help them adapt to the routine of regular employment.

One of the main features of the service is individual one-to-one support provided to people within the workplace. Right Employment’s staff work alongside the clients at their workplace to help them learn their job, and then gradually withdraw support as the person becomes more independent and established in their work environment. Right Employment has found that having a job can help people build up confidence and give satisfaction at being a valued member of a team.

Since its beginning, Right Employment has found more than 400 jobs, in many different work environments, and is currently working with approximately 80 clients at varying stages of the process. Some clients are just starting to look for work, whilst others have been successful in their job for a number of years. However, whatever the stage, Right Employment is always there to offer support to both the client and employer.

Mike came to Right Employment to help get back into work. With support, Mike had a work trial at a company supplying water coolers and water dispensers in the county.

Mike is a quiet person, who finds it hard to communicate with people he does not know. However, the trial gave him the perfect opportunity to learn the skills required for the job and for both him and his new colleagues to get to know each other.

Right Employment supported Mike throughout his highly successful trial period where he became a valued member of the team.

The managing drector of the company was so pleased with Mike’s contribution that he offered him a permanent position. Right Employment are delighted to say Mike’s confidence in both the work environment and making general conversation has improved.
