Gluts and Gluttony began life as a food blog five years ago. I’d been working in London for 12 years as a brand strategist for advertising agencies and the rat race was taking its toll. So I quit. With no idea what to do next.

No longer commuting, I got into the swing of rural life and, with much more time on my hands, indulged my love of growing and cooking my own food. The blog, Gluts & Gluttony, was a way to document all the gluts I was getting in the veg patch and the ensuing gluttony in the kitchen.

Enthused by life as a writing cook I retrained at Ashburton Chef School and got a job growing vegetables at Daylesford organic farm in Kingham and subsequently in their cookery school. By night, I began hosting supper clubs and cooking privately for locals’ dinner parties with the menus dictated by what was growing in the allotment.

A couple of years later, G&G was a full-time business which I ran with my business partner Mandy. We offered private chef services, cookery classes and supper clubs in unusual places (the gin distillery was a night to remember). Our food celebrated seasonal, home grown ingredients from plot to plate.

Never ones to stand still, in 2018 Mandy and I have decided to try some new things. and pursue our own ventures. I will be returning to my roots (vegetable or otherwise) to concentrate on writing about food and growing it.

It means I will be doing more cookery classes at G&G HQ cooking three or four dishes whilst we all sit around my kitchen island and chat about the food. Menus are decided just before the class based on what I have in my veg patch or on my local foragers and suppliers. Each class will have a different menu so we might do charred purple sprouting broccoli, spelt and anchovy salad; hake wrapped in courgette leaves; roast radishes with feta; or, baked peaches with pistachio and orange blossom.

Guests eat what I’ve cooked for lunch and head home with a recipe pack and lots of inspiration. The next course is Simple & Healthy Seasonal Suppers on March 23, April 25, May 18 and June 22.

The supper clubs were also too much fun to give up so I will be continuing those. Not least because I have an allotment full of vegetables that need eating. First up will be A Spring Feast on Friday May 4 at The Tea Set Café in Chipping Norton. As usual, guests will be welcomed with a seasonal cocktail then sit down at the communal table to a four course homegrown feast celebrating the very first harvests of the growing year. I talk a bit about the food too so everyone leaves well fed and a bit cleverer too. The menu will be revealed on the evening of the event but I expect lots of green: peas, watercress and broad beans plus the very earliest strawberries.

Kathy’s cookery classes with lunch cost £50.
