WITH just six weeks to go until it opens its gates to the public, Oxfordshire’s most environmentally-friendly music festival has announced its line-up.

Wood, which takes place among forested countryside at Braziers Park, Ipsden, near Wallingford, from May 18-20, is an award-winning festival which not only promotes green issues but aims to operate by example, making a minimal impact on the landscape.

For its 10th anniversary, it has assembled one of its strongest line-ups yet, with appropriately-named blues and soul-rockers Treetop Flyers; 77:78 – featuring Aaron Fletcher and Tim Parkin of The Bees; Bristol art-rockers Yama Warash; political folk artist Grace Petrie; and Bennett Wilson Poole – a three-piece consisting of Danny Wilson of the band Danny And The Champions Of The World, producer and guitarist Tony Poole, and Robin Bennett of the band The Dreaming Spires – who also co-runs the festival with his brother, and fellow musician, Joe.

The festival utilises composting lavatories and green energy. Food and drink is generally organic and locally-sourced and the wooden stage is roofed with wildflowers. As well as music there are workshops and classes covering everything from wild foraging to identifying trees and wildlife, yoga and traditional crafts.

Also playing the event are singer-songwriter and Robert Plant collaborator Julie Murphy; Orphan Colours, featuring Ahab members Steven Llewellyn, Dave Burn and Graham Knight, Danny & The Champions of The World’s drummer Steve Brookes, and Noah & the Whale guitarist Fred Abbott; Oxfordshire singer and fiddle player Jackie Oates; family-friendly musician Nick Cope; and Cornwall’s William the Conqueror.

Robin Bennett said: “This is the 10th anniversary of our festival of music and nature, and we’re calling it Year of the Water Vole, to help draw attention to one of Britain’s most adorable mammals, now seriously endangered.

Adult Weekend tickets cost £94 – unless you are travelling to Wood by bicycle, in which case they are £85. Teens (13-17) are £20, children aged 12 and under are free.
