Oxford Philomusica launches its popular Summer Baroque series with music by Stravinsky, Dorman, C.P.E. Bach and J.S. Bach. They are joined by Grammy-nominated mandolin virtuoso Avi Avital and guest conductor Karin Ben-Josef. The series continues to July 27, and includes Handel’s Acis and Galatea, Vivaldi’s Gloria and other baroque gems, both familiar and unfamiliar. Legendary baritone Robert Holl and rising star Lydia Teuscher (soprano) join Sholto Kynoch (piano) to bring the Oxford Lieder Spring series to a close with this tribute to Hugo Wolf, including his first songs, Sechs Lieder für eine Frauenstimme, and his final songs, three settings of Michaelangelo. This is the latest in the project to perform and record the entire Hugo Wolf song collection for the first time.
