LIKE Christmas, summer festival announcements seem to start earlier every year.

First out of the traps this time are Cornbury Music Festival, who today reveal the line-up for their opening night, and new kid on the block Common People.

Headlining Cornbury is soulful jazzer Jamie Cullum, who is joined by differently-soulful 80s dance act Soul II Soul, Brit-winning Fame Academy alumnus Lemar, and rock survivor Wilko Johnson.

Also playing the festival, which takes place at Great Tew Park, near Chipping Norton (not at Cornbury Park) from July 8-10, are ska veterans The Beat along with Norwich four-piece Port Isla and Lancastrian indie-pop act The Lottery Winners.

The presence of Wilko on the list will be warmly greeted by Cornbury-goers, after the Dr Feelgood guitarist played what he expected to be one of his last gigs there in 2013.

The artist, considered one of the founding fathers of punk, was seriously ill with a malignant tumour at the time, but following a subsequent 11-hour operation he has declared himself cancer free.

Discounts of 30 per cent are still available for earlybird discounts on Cornbury’s Friday tickets, costing £50 for an adult, or £5 for a child. Go to cornburymusicfestival.com.

* Common People, which comes to Oxford’s South Park on Spring Bank Holiday looks set to be a rockier affair, with Primal Scream, Soul II Soul (again) and hip-hop act Public Enemy among the big hitters.

Other names on the bill for the event, on May 28 and 29, include ‘rockney’ duo Chas & Dave, singer-songwriter Jamie Lawson, Brentford pirate radio crew Kurupt FM, The Cuban Brothers, Mr Motivator and Oxford City Singers, on the Saturday, and garage singer Craig David, Ghost Poet, The Sugarhill Gang, Don Brocco, and West End Kids on the Sunday.

Also present will be Oxford DJ Aidan Larkin’s popular Disco Shed – which has travelled to many of the country’s biggest festivals.

Tickets go on sale at 11am today, head to commonpeople.net for more details.
