WEEKS of fevered speculation have ended with the announcement of the final headliners of this summer’s Reading Festival.

Scottish rockers Biffy Clyro and alt-rockers Fall Out Boy take head up the action, sharing co-headline status.

They join a bill already featuring Oxford’s Foals, dance act Disclosure, and US rock icons Red Hot Chili Peppers. The fresh announcements, notable for their punchy live performances, reinforce Reading’s traditional credential as the home of full-throttle rock.

The band’s will also play Reading’s sister festival in Leeds.

Fall Out Boy last played Reading in 2013, triggering one of the biggest crowds in festival history.

Speaking about their co-headlining spot, the band said: "It’s pretty surreal to hear we are going to be co-headlining Reading.

“This was our first real festival experience outside of the US and, since the start, we have buckled in and had an insane and memorable experience every time we have played. This is it, the big one for us and we are excited to be a part of it."

Festival director Melvin Benn said: “This year really is a big one for Reading. Five headliners across three days – it’s a first for us and the UK Festival scene.

“We’re always looking to give Reading fans something new and this year isn’t going to disappoint. Biffy Clyro and Fall Out Boy are going to be incredible.”

Other fresh additions to the bill include synth-pop act Chvrches, indie-rockers The Vaccines, chart dominating hip hop star A$AP Rocky, Watford band Lower Than Atlantis, rockers Sleeping With Sirens, Welsh reggae-rock heroes Skindred, punk legend Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes, heavy American icons Five Finger Death Punch and State Champs.

Equally hard working, but somewhat less famous are Oxford's Mighty Redox, who this weekend mark the release of their new album Blue Skies Sunshine with a trio of gigs.

Tonight they play downstairs at The Wheatsheaf, then tomorrow move for a show at Klub Kakofanney with Lucy Leave and 31Hours. Then on Saturday, they play The Black Swan with Des Barkus.

Frontman Phil Freizinger said: “The album is full of surprises. It`s a sonic adventure that will keep our fans guessing while still capturing the well-honed live essence of the band."

Skindred frontman Benji Webbe said he couldn’t wait to get to Reading’s boisterous Thames-side site. "You will see a lot of bands at Reading & Leeds Festival but there's nothing that will come close to the energy that Skindred will deliver and the vibes that will be rocking through the festival when we hit the stage!” he sais.

“A performance not to be missed, we come in peace but we will leave you in pieces."

Other acts to look forward to include Californian sisters HAIM, Jack Garratt, The Wombats , Die Antwoord, Cage The Elephant Reading’s own indie –pop act Sundara, Sigma, Netsky, AlunaGeorge, Mura Masa, Krept & Konan and Giggs.

They rub shoulders with The Neighbourhood, Blossoms, Basement, Half Moon Run, Highly Suspect, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Asking Alexandria, The King Blues, Creeper, FVK, Rage Against The Machine’s Tim Commerford’s new outfit Wakrat, Modern Baseball, Dead!, Kvelertak and Citizen.

Speaking of their performance, The Wombats said: ''We are beyond excited to get back to Reading Festival! If I'm correct this will be our fourth time around but without a doubt last year was our favourite. It doesn't get much better than a Reading crowd!"

Meanwhile, Itch from The King Blues said: "We're so excited to be back amongst the freaks and the troublemakers on the punk stage we've played so many times. This is truly going to be the highlight of my summer"
