In a gig befitting one of the country’s best respected art galleries, the extraordinary Dead Rat Orchestra play a live film soundtrack to James Holcombe’s film Tyburnia.
The cheery subject is the history of London’s Tyburn place of execution, and how a study of those who perished there reflects UK history and society. The Dead Rats have previously done similar stuff at Tate Modern.

Six of the hardest, heaviest metal bands convene for the finals of the Bloodstock Metal 2 the Masses competition, the victor winning a coveted slot at the Bloodstock rock festival.

Squeeze into your finest evening wear and saunter down to Henley, where the site of this week’s royal regatta explodes into song for five days of live music. Henley Festival is unlike any other event in the county, packing in an A-list line-up of pop, jazz and classical music for a tux and cocktail dress-clad crowd. It’s odd but hugely enjoyable.

Highlights include Jessie J on Wednesday, Lionel Richie next Thursday, Gregory Porter on the Friday, the Gipsy Kings on the Saturday and Spandau Ballet on the Sunday.
