Here’s your chance to support Independent Venue Week, while improving your blagging rights in years to come.

Tonight The Cellar stages its showcase gig featuring three acts guaranteed to make it big: Maiians, Cassels and Rosie Caldicot.

The night is a joint venture between the venue and BBC Introducing.

Venue owner Tim Hopkins says: “It’s going to be a great night of varied music.

“It starts with delicate folkie music from Rosie, to provide a chilled out start to the evening, before moving into Cassels, with energetic indie-rock to blow your socks off, and then Maiians who play electronica with live drums – who will hopefully allow us to find our socks before dancing them off again!”

Carry on supporting independent venue week, by getting behind one of the city’s best-loved bands.

As reported right, The Dreaming Spires have been nominated for a couple of accolades at next week’s Americana Music Awards, in Hackney, and are warming up for the occasion by playing a gig at The Bullingdon – which also happens to be one of our top indie venues. See main interview.

With their big rousing tunes, sing-along choruses and irrepressible sense of joy, Eliza and the Bear have had no trouble amassing a substantial following, which has seen them comprehensively sell-out everywhere they play. On Saturday they return to Oxford for a night of favourites and newer tunes from their soon-to-be-released debut album.

We love Lucy Rose’s melancholic introspection – a quality which only comes from having one’s heart broken. Something we are all too familiar with here at Weekend. These days, she tells us, she is a happier bunny, but that doesn’t make her music any less compelling. Don’t miss a chance to see her in the lovely setting of Chippy Theatre.
