Former boyband singer Jay McGuiness is the 10th celebrity to waltz onto Strictly Come Dancing.

The 25-year-old, who was part of The Wanted before the group announced their hiatus in January 2014, revealed his news as he appeared live on air with Matt Edmondson on BBC Radio 1.

He said: “My family are such huge Strictly fans. I know I’ve made them very happy by taking part – I can’t wait to get started!

“I love to dance but this is going to be so different from anything I have done before, I’m up for it!”

The Newark-born musician joins a line-up that includes singer and TV star Peter Andre, boxer Anthony Ogogo, Irish singer Daniel O’Donnell, BBC weather presenter Carol Kirkwood, celebrity chef Ainsley Harriott, broadcaster Jeremy Vine, former Coronation Street star Georgia May Foote, EastEnders actress Kellie Bright and newsreader Katie Derham.

Jay, whose hits with The Wanted included All Time Low, Glad You Came and Walks Like Rihanna, follows in the footsteps of McFly’s Harry Judd and Blue’s Simon Webbe, who took part in previous series of the BBC One show.

Bookmakers have offered odds of 10/1 of McGuiness winning the competition, with Peter Andre the 4/1 favourite with ex-Coronation Street actress Georgia May Foote at 6/1.

“The Wanted were never known for their intricate dance routines and as a result, Jay is a 10/1 shot giving him the same chance of winning as Ainsley and Anthony Ogogo,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.
