Frank Ocean treated fans to a Valentine’s Day gift as he released a cover of 1961 classic Moon River.
His reinterpretation of the song – which was performed by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast At Tiffany’s – was posted to YouTube on Thursday but the video features a 2/14 stamp.
The cover features a sparse guitar with a patchwork of layered vocals and delighted a number of fellow musicians including Lily Allen and Paramore’s Hayley Williams.
Allen wrote: “This is lovely” on Twitter while Brockhampton DJ and producer Romil Hemnani tweeted: “New frank ocean song is so awesome it makes me miss my guitar.”
British group Bastille wrote: “Thanks Frank” with a link to the video.
Fans of the US musician also enjoyed the sombre cover with one labelling it a “brazen move”.
@AyoCaesar wrote: “Dropping this absolute heart-lenger on Valentine’s Day was such a brazen move by Frank Ocean,” adding: “Why are you making me weep in an airport Frank”.
@Scttklmr tweeted: “Only single people are allowed to listen to this.”
Composed by Henry Mancini with lyrics by Johnny Mercer, Moon River won the Record of the Year and Song of the Year prizes at the 1962 Grammy Awards.
