Simon Pegg has praised Tom Cruise for his eye-catching stunt in Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol.

The Hollywood star dangles from a suspension cord from the world's tallest tower in the film.

"It was a very clever idea," Simon, who starred in the film, said.

"Tom knows instinctively what audiences respond to and the thrill of that sequence has been an undeniable factor in the film's success.

"The stunt was meticulously executed and Tom's safety was assured at all times.

"It just took guts and devotion to pull it off, and he has that in abundance."

Simon said of the view: "It was slightly unreal, like being up in a plane. It was extraordinary to be up that high and still be attached to the ground."

The actor also said he had nothing but praise for Tom. "He's generous and funny and displays a level of professionalism which is humbling," he said.

"It bugs me when I hear preconceptions about him. They are generated by people who have never met him and choose to take gossip as gospel."
