Gemma Collins isn’t the first to find life in the I’m A Celebrity jungle all too much.

The Towie star – who has been hogging the headlines with her dramatic behaviour – fled after just three days camping under the stars.

But Malcolm McLaren didn’t even last a day when he joined the show in 2007.

The former Sex Pistols manager walked out just hours before he was due to go into the jungle.

He claimed he quit the show because the series is a “fake”, denying he left because he was frightened of insects and spiders.

Former soap star Daniella Westbrook lasted just nine days in 2003.

After walking out, she said: “I was living hour to hour in a world of hurt. All I’ve done is cry, and if I’ve got any tears left, I’ll blub.”

The following year, former Sex Pistols star John Lydon stormed off in the middle of the night.

John, who sparked almost 100 complaints after calling the audience “fucking c***s” for not voting him off, told programme-makers that he was “bored” and “wanted some chocolate”.

In 2012 comedian and entertainer Brian Conley quit, with ITV citing unexplained medical reasons.

Brian later told Daybreak he had to go because ITV bosses had ordered him to take the anti-depressants he had been on for 15 years, which he had stopped taking in the jungle because of the side effects from hunger. He said he had been suffering from malnutrition and exhaustion.

Former East 17 singer Brian Harvey left in 2004, after a blazing row with Janet Street-Porter.

Days later Natalie Appleton also walked out, after she was voted to undergo a fifth Bushtucker Trial.

In 2010, actor Nigel Havers quit following a row about jungle tasks, saying: “I cannot waste another second of my life.”

The Charmer and Coronation Street actor had refused to take part in one of the group trials which saw contestants being given an electric shock if they failed part of the task.

The 2009 series saw model Katie Price quit the show in tears and “with my head between my toes in shame” after being repeatedly chosen for stomach-churning Bushtucker trials by the public.

Viewers had voted for Katie, who had returned to the show to get back in the public’s good books following her split with Peter Andre, to take part in every single trial – she had enough after being told she faced a seventh.

Lothario and Hollywood star George Hamilton also walked out of the same series just days before the final of the show.

He said he had missed his girlfriend and had been deprived of sleep because of fellow contestant Kim Woodburn’s snoring.

He became the third star to quit the series, after Katie and dancer Camilla Dallerup left.

Former Strictly professional Camilla had struggled with the food rationing in the jungle camp from Day One, saying that as a professional dancer she is used to a strict regime.

“I’ve had a chat with the medics and I’ve taken the decision because if I stayed any longer I could risk my health,” she said.

In 2011, comedian Freddie Starr had to leave hours after winning a “bushtucker trial” that included eating mouse tails and turkey testicles.

He was rushed to hospital and said to have suffered a “severe allergic reaction from an unknown origin”.
