Hell hath no fury like Tracy Barlow and the residents of Coronation Street were left to deal with her fiery vengeance today.

As the flames ripped through Carla’s apartment, it wasn’t Tracy’s hated rival who was in danger, but her daughter, Amy, who was trapped in there along with Leanne and Kal.

There followed a frantic search for a ladder as the bumbling residents of the street tried their best to be useful.

Eventually, one was located and the rescue was on.

But now they needed to convince Amy to climb down it. She wasn’t keen.

Finally, after an inspirational talk from Liz, she took the plunge and descended to safety.

But where was the fire brigade?

Meanwhile, Tyrone had spotted something – the fire was getting dangerously close to an unfortunately positioned gas cannister.

“I don’t like the look of that,” said Tyrone, and neither did we.

Amid the drama, Leanne found time to accept Kal’s proposal as she descended the ladder to safety.

It was a sweet moment, but she might as well have pushed the poor man face first into the fire – as everyone knows, a moment of great happiness in a soap opera must be balanced out by a healthy dollop of disaster.

The explosion duly came and Kal was not following his new fiancee down that ladder.

Most viewers knew exactly who they were blaming – and it wasn’t Tracy.

But that wasn’t the end of the drama. Oh no.

Maddie, speeding to pass the news of Jenny’s impending getaway with Jack on to Sophie, ran past the burning building – just as another explosion went off.

She was carted off to hospital – so there’s still some hope.

By this stage, everybody knew that Kal was done for – but confirmation finally came as a body was found.

Yep, he’s a goner. But will Maddie follow him?

She couldn’t. Could she?
