Adriana Brito Matos on a dazzling display of dance
Black Ballet triple bill delighted a very diverse audience with three breathtaking performances .
The evening began with the curtain rising to reveal Japanese dancer Sayaka Ichikawa dressed in a dazzling white outfit embroidered with Swarovski crystals, and senior artist Jacob Wye.
As they performed Cristaux by Arthur Pita, the audience was left hypnotised by the fluid movements demonstrated by both dancers.
The next act, To Begin, Begin saw the stage dressed in a large blue silk cloth. These highly-skilled dancers fascinated the audience by moving lightly around, under and above the giant cloth.
The group worked incredibly well together, interacting and coordinating their movements with elegance and precision.
The final act, The story of Storyville, told the story of Nola and Lulu White.
Christopher Marney's choreography is intense, robust and bold. Some of the dancers carried big cards explaining to the audience what was already obvious to anyone paying attention.
The evening ended with the audience clapping vigorously for a small ballet company which couldn't be more ahead of it's time.
What could be more fulfilling then a night of dancers from all backgrounds, proudof their ethnicity, performing to an eager audience?
