2:34pm Wednesday 1st February 2012 in Theatre/Art By Christopher Gray
What’s it like working with Dawn French, Stephen Fry and Richard Curtis? Find out from former BBC producer Paul Mayhew-Archer. The co-writer of The Vicar of Dibley will be talking about his career at 7.30pm on Saturday at the Amey Theatre, Abingdon. Comedy duo Frimston and Rowett, fresh from their success at the 2011 Edinburgh Fringe, will also be performing.
Mayhew-Archer (above) has worked on many popular British television and radio comedy programmes of the last 20 years, including My Hero, Miranda and Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps.
Frimston and Rowett are an up-and-coming duo tipped to be stars of the future. Their sketch show sells out at venues around the country.
The evening is in aid of Gobo Theatre, a new touring “fair-trade theatre” company set up to give talented young people their first professional theatre contract. The aim is to break the “need experience to get experience” Catch-22 that has blighted the early careers of so many actors.
Gobo is raising funds to launch its first tour, bringing high-quality productions to rural venues in Oxfordshire and beyond.
Tickets cost £10 and are available at http://www.wegottickets.
com/event/144061 or from Mostly Books in Stert Street, Abingdon. For more about Gobo, visit their website www.gobotheatre.co.uk
