350 sign petition backing Oxford Christmas Market move

MORE than 350 people have signed a petition supporting a Christmas Market in Oxford’s Broad Street.

The Christmas Market was cancelled this year after a move to the city centre street from Oxford Castle was refused by the city council.

It came after city centre businesses said it would harm their trade.

For the past three years there has been a Christmas market at the castle, but organisers say the lack of passing pedestrians meant the market was not financially viable in the long term.

Organiser Nicole Rahimi, from Iffley, said there were 200 traders interested in having a stall if the market moved to Broad Street.

Hear, hear. Street markets (for example, French markets, "European" markets) and street traders are licensed throughout the rest of the year, whether local businesses like it or not. What is different in this case, I wonder?

There will still be a Christmas Market at the Oxford Castle, it's just being organised by somebody else.

I wonder why some people hate competition now-a-days ?
