Stadium finds £20 forgeries

Oxford Stadium has boosted security after more than £200 of forged £20 notes were discovered.

Stadium staff believe the notes were passed over on The Tote on Friday and Saturday nights within the past two weeks.

Extra security personnel have been brought in at the Sandy Lane greyhound stadium and every note will now be checked by machine.

Oxford Stadium promotions manager Mick Wheble said: “Our concern is we do not want to pass them to our customers and we want patrons to realise they are in circulation.”

Forged notes are easy to spot. They become even more obvious the moment they are next to a genuine note.

Every forged note that I've ever handled (for legal and relevant purposes) has always had faults.

Slightly wrong colours, image resolution of low standard, illegible text, poor quality paper, front and back failing to line up properly, watermarks wrong, metallic strips with incorrect content, holograms with wrong image, fluorescence wrong...

Just tear the note where the metal strip should be, that is the one thing that they cannot forge, I have never taken a dodgy note since I started doing that, but found many that my customers have tried to pay me with. The banks hate it as it shortens the life of a note, but until they will exchange a dodgy note I have been paid with for a real one, then I will carry on protecting myself in this way. I still get a load of dodgy £1 coins though, but they are accepted as currency as I believe that there are about 40 million of them in use at the moment.
