Car lands in swimming pool after crashing through fence

A PENSIONER made a splash after her car crashed through a garden fence and landed in a swimming pool.

The 83-year-old's red Vauxhall Corsa crashed through a garden fence in Foxborough Road, Radley, this morning.

The garden belonged to doctor Denisa Wilkes, who was inside the house with her husband Nicholas and their six-year-old daughter Juliana when the accident happened at around 10.40am.

Dr Wilkes, 32, said: “I heard a knock so I looked out the window and all I could see was this red car in my swimming pool.

“She was just sitting there completely unscathed, I said ‘are you OK?’ and she said ‘yes, I am fine’.

“It must have been very slow-motion, five miles per hour or something because she just fell in vertically.

“It is not what you expect on a Wednesday morning.”

Juliana said: “I was inside watching telly, and dad told me to look out the window.

“I saw the ambulance and police cars and fire engines and a car in my swimming pool.”

glad she is ok, but there is a time when people must give up their cars, especially as the roads are a different world to when they passed their test. A lot of my north Oxford elderly lady customers sold their cars because they were not happy and confidant on the road, and they say that with the money they got for the car and what they save on insurance, maintenance, tax etc, it more than covers them being driven on their trips to the hairdressers and shops and church on a sunday morning.

too many doctors approve extensions to peoples driving licences on the proverbial nod, irrespective of medical state of health, this decision needs to be taken away from family GPs and placed in the hands of unbiased people independent of the area concerned.

That is quite an accusation you are making. Basically fraud and malpractice. I trust you have evidence to back this up?
Your proposal is basically for the same system we currently have for WCA, which is an unmitigated disaster.

Unless the 70+ driver is renewing the C1 (medium size vehicles)and/or D1 (minibus) entitlement parts of the licence or a medical condition has been declared there is no requirement for medical support.

The driver simply renews the licence using the form sent by DVLA.

Not the 1st time it has happened.

Used to know the person who lived there.

The road can be very slippery there
and easy to take it a bit too fast...
