OXFORD has joined a list of areas across the county now on flood alert following yesterday’s heavy rain.

The Environment Agency has put The River Thames and tributaries, including areas between Wolvercote to Radley and Jericho, on flood alert, which means flooding is possible.

The agency said: “The River Thames has responded to yesterday’s rainfall and spilled out into the floodplain in the Oxford area.

“Levels will continue to remain high today and there may be standing water in the floodplain.

“River levels are expected to rise again in response to tonight’s forecast rainfall.”

Meanwhile, the fire service is pumping water out of The Mill Arts Centre in Banbury after the bar area was flooded.

More rain is expected later today.
