Carnival fundraiser gig cancelled as tickets fail to sell

A charity concert being held to raise funds for next summer’s Cowley Road carnival has been cancelled due to poor ticket sales.

The Jouvert event was due to take place at the O2 Academy, Cowley Road, last night.

But Cowley Road Works, the charity which organises the carnival, said just 70 tickets were sold for the 1,000 capacity venue.

For Save Cowley Road Carnival, read, Save Temple Cowley Pools. It seems that everybody and their dog will sign a petition, go to the press, and shout from the rooftops about what a tragedy it would be to lose them, but when it actually comes to putting their money where their mouth is, then that is a different story. Only 70 tickets sold, for christ's sake, there are more than 70 traders in the Cowley Road area alone, and even they couldn't be bothered to buy tickets. When they (the traders) are looking at a day when they would make £thousands, and can't be bothered to spend a few quid, well you do not deserve a carnival.

Well said PV. Most carnivals around the country raise funds for charities. The Cowley Road outfit seem to expect loads of money to run their carnival, most from local taxpayers.
